About the event: The Big Sit is an informal count of all birds visible over the course of one day from an observer (or group of observers) standing within a 17 foot diameter circle. This years event saw beautiful weather on the refuge at the location chosen which was along the Wildlife Drive. Thanks to Betsy Beneke for organizing this fun event!

Notes: Doug Stucki was the first to arrive, followed by Joe Conely and Betsy Beneke; Tom & Elizabeth Bell not long after. These were the primary counters. We counted from approx. 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. Beautiful day - approx. 75 degrees for a high. Slight breeze kept the few mosquitoes at bay. Most activity was just as it was getting light out. Quieted down a lot after 10:30 or 11:00. Added a few more birds during the course of the day, with another little flurry as it was getting toward dusk.
Thanks to Todd Merefield, Marcia Johnson and E. Mattison for the photos.
