Fall migrants will be the focus of a birding tour scheduled for Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, September 6, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Participants will meet at the Old School House and then travel to the Wildlife Drive. The woodland patches along the drive are like stepping stones for song birds as they cross the wetlands and prairie openings that dominate the refuge. Small birds often move through in waves and should be relatively easy to see. However, looking for fall warblers is much like fishing; the action is often sporadic and patience may be required.
This program is free and open to the public. Bring a pair of binoculars and a bird book, if you have them. Pre-registration is requested by calling Nancy Haugen, Visitor Services Manager at (763) 389-3323 ext.13. The Old School House is located on Sherburne County Road 9, 5.5 miles west of Highway 169.
