The public is invited to celebrate National Trails Day at Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge by participating in a free guided bird tour on Saturday, June 7th, 2008 beginning at 7:00 a.m. Participants will meet at the Old School House and car pool to nearby woodland trails and the Wildlife Drive to look for birds.
The bird tour participants will spend approximately three hours searching the Blue Hill Trail and the Wildlife Drive for migratory songbirds and waterbirds. Reliable in the woodlands are Scarlet tanager, Indigo bunting, Red-eyed vireo, Least flycatcher, and Blue-gray gnatcatcher. Warblers sightings may include Chestnut-sided, Golden-winged, American redstart, and Ovenbird. On the Wildlife Drive bald eagles, sandhill cranes and trumpeter swans are likely to be seen. Bring your binoculars. The tour leader will be Barb Kull, an experienced birder familiar with the Refuge.
