LATEST EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES AT THE REFUGE!

WINTERFEST EVENT -  Saturday February 4, 2012 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.   Come on out and meet Greg Siekaniec, past chief of Refuge System and current deputy director for policy of US-Fish and Wildlife Service. Even though snow amounts are less than average there will still be plenty of fun and satisfying activities to take part in over the course of the day.  See events page for flyer and more information.

The Sherburne NWR Christmas Bird Count was conducted in warmer than expected winter weather conditions Saturday December 17, 2011.  The bird species were up from last year with total 49 species (preliminary results) and over 2920 birds seen over the course of the day by approximately 34 counters.  More results will be posted soon.   Thanks to Betsy Beneke for being the hostess at Refuge Headquarters, offering lunch and being general overall resource to all birders joining this effort to cover the 15 mile diameter count circle.

The Wildlife Drive closed January 1, 2012 for the normal santuary period to observe the new years nesting and breeding activities. Please respect the boundaries which provide for the needs of wildlife at your refuge. There is still access to enjoy the refuge at Blue Hill Trail (cross country skiing)and Mahnomen Trail (hiking/snowshoeing).  Thank you for respecting each of these activities designated trails for the enjoyment of all.
