A brilliant red sunset.
A blooming blue flag iris.
A majestic bald eagle in flight.
A group of kids laughing along the trail.
From grand scale to microcosmic. From a whole spectrum of colors to monochromatic. There's always something to be captured at the refuge. Captured with your camera, that is!
Every week in every season brings a change in habitat, whether it is plants and trees in bloom, water level changes due to rain or management practices, grasses and sedges in the prairie, or resident and migrating waterfowl, insects, and mammals.
The Friends of Sherburne have created a guide to what may be found and "captured" at the refuge throughout the months of the year. The study of the annual calendar of changes in nature is called phenology. Our phenology guide (Nature's Calendar) can be viewed/downloaded here or hard copies are available at the refuge headquarters during normal business hours and at kiosks in parking areas throughout the refuge.
Our photo galleries below give you a sampling of the beautiful flora, fauna, and fellowship you might experience while visiting the refuge. We invite you to stop by often and discover your own favorite time of year to hike, bike, fish or just drive through the refuge! Fishing can be conducted at the fishing access points and visitors can bike the Wildlife Drive during sanctuary.
